Tuesday 11th September 2012 presented the following selection of wines from Chile
White Montevista Reserva, Viognier 2010, Region de Coquimbo Bright, vibrant and expressive with a touch of fresh pear fruit. Wonderfully pure, lifted and aromatic with a long, textural finish. Tonada by Cono Sur 2011, Sauvignon Blanc 2011, Valle Central With green notes, vegetal, gooseberry and leafy aromas this is textbook New World Sauvignon Blanc. The palate has notes of tinned green beans and passion fruit. All in all a clean and refreshing white wine. Clos des Fous, Chardonnay 2010, Cachapoal, Maule Bright yellow in colour, with fresh, citrus fruit aromas on the nose and impressive purity on the palate. It is fairly full in body but with lively acidity to balance and a polished, long finish.
Rosé Chocalan, Syrah Petit Verdot Seleccion 2010, Maipo Valley An 80/20 blend of Syrah and Petit Verdot, this Maipo Valley rosé packs a punch and a great vibrant pink colour along with strawberry aromas, rich texture and a crisp finish.
Red Tonada by Cono Sur, Merlot Reserva 2009, Valle de Colchagua Black and red fruit aromas with overtones of sweet oak. Aged in 70% French oak the palate is full of concentrated plum fruit, finely structured with velvety ripe tannins. Chocalan, Carmenère Seleccion 2010, Maipo Valley Deep ruby red in colour with layers of spice and red berry fruit on the nose with earthy, mineral notes and touches of vanilla and coffee. Medium bodied on the palate with rounded tannins and juicy fruit character. A long, balanced finish. Adobe Reserva by Emiliana, Malbec 2011, Rapel Valley Deep ruby-red in colour, with intense aromas of plum and blackberries, with vanilla and spice. The palate has some lively fresh cherry characters, elegantly combined with a lovely dusty flavour. Medium-bodied on the palate with silky ripe tannins and a long, broad finish. Purple Angel 2009 by Montes, Valle de Colchagua This has an intense youthful purple colour, typical from concentrated Carmenere. Delicate, with hints of chocolate and cigar box aromas. The Carmenere grapes from the Apalta estate provides elegance and spiciness. The Petit Verdot adds structure and the wildness of black berries. This wine is full bodied, with a considerable amount of ripe tannins giving grip and structure. Mouth filling with a very long finish. More information about Aitken Wines, their tastings and
