11th April 2006
Ben Booth from Luvians Bottleshop presented a tasting of the the following
Lustau Sherries.
Lustau Puerto Fino
Description
A truly great wine matured in the town of Puerto de Santa Maria, considered
by many experts to be the home of the finest classic fino. The flagship
of the House of Lustau; a dry elegant Sherry, light and smooth with just
a hint of the sea and attractive fruit. Very fresh, with a slight taste
of tangy yeast. The pronounced flor bouquet is due to Puerto Fino's double
maturation under fresh flor.

Lustau Almacenista Amontillado de Jerez 1/30 Florido

An outstanding example of Jerez's classic Amontillado wines. A jewel bright
dark gold colour, with penetrating and nutty aromas. On the palate the
wine is elegant, powerful; rich and dry, yet light, with a warming, lingering
finish.
When To Drink it
As an apéritif; or to accompany consomme, rich soups, cold meats,
or even rich flavoured fish and seafood dishes.

The Almacenista
Don Miguel Fontádez Florido, a chemist by trade, from a wine making
family, takes pride in his unique "sacristía", located
behind his pharmacy in Jerez, where he has an amazing collection of antiques,
pottery, paintings and fascinating bric-a-brac. It is a maze of small
rooms, in the deepest recesses of which is a tiny bodega containing just
a few casks of some exquisite, very old wines.

The Almacenista
Vides S.A. was founded in 1958 by Don Tomas Domecq Rivero, and the bodegas

Santiago quarter of the city. Today, his grandson, Don Fernando Leon Manjon
owns the bodega.

Lustau Old East India
Description
In centuries gone by, casks of sherry were lashed to ships sailing for
the Indies as ballast, and were found to develop an extraordinary smoothness
and complexity. Lustau has revived this style of sherry in the East India
wine. Unforgettable flavours of raisins, candied peel and nuts. Robert
Parker's comment: "Nutty, sweet, crème brûlée
smell".
When To Drink it
Perfect companion to light desserts and cakes, but can also be served
with cheeses, or simply as a sweet digestif.

Serve at cool room temperature
