9th May 2006Bill Burke, of Rose-wine.com, www.rose-wine.com, presented the following wines. From Domaine de La Rouillère...These wines were from Domaine de La Rouillère just down the hill from Ramatuelle near St Tropez. A family run vineyard with limited production in a magical location. These wines will prove the perfect introduction to French coastal Rosés to anyone new to them. Pale and light they are seen on the best tables in the St Tropez area and are now deservedly achieving recognition further afield. Very exclusive wines! Cuvée du Cap Three grapes combine to produce this fabulous Cuvée. In Bill's opinion this wine forms a veritable benchmark for light to medium coastal Rosés, beautifully balanced and immensely satisfying. Small quantities are produced and he is fortunate to have this wine in his portfolio. Marvellous clarity, elegant on the nose, light red fruit and good finish. 750ml 12.5% vol. £117.00 per case including VAT & delivery! Rosé Brut Methode Traditionnelle Using the same production methods as fine Champagne, but with the benefit of southern climes this is a triumph of the winemakers art. A beautiful salmon pink Sparkling Wine it is wonderfully effervescent in the glass when first poured. The mass of pink tinged bubbles then moderate to a long lasting steady stream. With little acidity this is a dry, light sparkling wine with a clean and pure finish. Delightful as the bubbles are, they do not dominate the wine when served chilled in a good glass. Instead the light fruit flavours come through and the alcohol seems to be held back further enhancing the wines delicacy. Presented in its frosted bottle, this is a wine which turns any occasion into a real celebration! 750ml 12% vol. £168.00 per case including VAT & delivery! From Les Maitres Vignerons de la presqu'ile de St-Tropez...With their distinctive tall bottle shape and labelling these are immediately recognisable as top quality South coast Rosés Carte Noire This is a prestigious Rosé often served with food at the very best establishments in the South of France. A blend of three grapes, Grenache, Cinsault and the less usual Tibouren, it provides a superb tasting experience. Slightly floral, when cold it moves to a real impression of fruit if the glass is warmed momentarily in the hand. Longer on the palate, a classic taste of coastal Provence. 750ml 12.5% vol. £111.00 per case including VAT & delivery. Cuvée du Cep d'Or This is a stunningly fresh, light Rosé as served all along the Mediterranean coast from Monte-Carlo to Perpignan and right down to fashionable Collioure near the Spanish border. Sometimes known as the Map Bottle for its portrayal of the St Tropez peninsula on the label, it is a past winner of the coveted Cep DOr award. This wine is lightly fruity, the alcohol does not come forward and the finish is quite thin leaving you refreshed and ready to pour the next glass. Great for drinking on its own. Strikingly different, and wonderful at weddings. 750ml 12.5% vol. £99.00 per case including VAT & delivery. From Le Societé Cooperative Agricole de Bessan...Close to the Mediterranean, North of the Spanish Border in Languedoc Roussillon nestles the pretty little village of Bessan. This area is the source of Rosé de Bessan and some other good local wines. The region has a long history of award winning successful wine production. Rosé de Bessan A pale onion skin coloured Rosé from relatively sandy soil the Rosé de Bessan differs from some of Bill's other wines in that it is a little more tannic and bridges the gap between utterly light Coastal Rosés and the more robust Rosé wines from central France. A dry-ish wine, the fruit comes through and lingers for a moment with a hint of a tangy finish. A good quality, thoroughly enjoyable, example from this emerging region. Special introductory pricing applies. 750ml 12.5% vol. SPECIAL OFFER !!! £78.00 per case including VAT
& delivery! To serve as a contrast, in both taste and colour, we also tasted the Casillero del Diablo Shiraz 2005 from Chile and the Beringer White Zinfandel 2004 from California. Bill also brought along some Riedel glasses. Opinion was slightly divided on just how much the Riedel glasses improved the wine, but the special rose glasses were certainly very elegant, and improved the wine-tasting experience.
