from
Valvona &
Crolla
Craig presented the following selection from Valvona &
Crolla's wines from newer Italian producers
Whites
Fiano Greco 2009 A Mano
This star white from Puglia is a stunning wine with a floral and perfumed
nose of apricots, citrus and grapes. Dry and zesty on the palate, the
lime and apricot fruits linger throughout the mouthwatering finish.
Greco di Tuco 2009 Vesevo
Clean and fresh on the nose, with perfumes of ripe pear and peach, a
touch of citrus and a herbal note giving way to a full-bodied palate,
ripe and fresh at the same time, with apricot and peach fruit characteristics.
Cometa 2009 Planeta
Intense and full of character, with integrated aromatic notes of citrus
and tropical fruit, white peach and pink grapefruit. The acidity is
well integrated with the fruit, making for a harmonious and elegant
wine.
Reds
Negroamaro 2008 A Mano
Intensely aromatic and packed with ripe, blackberry fruit, and hints
of spice and chocolate. Deliciously smooth and soft yet com plex.
Santa Cecilia 2009 Planeta
Deep and rich in colour, almost opaque with an intense nose of spice,
chocolate and plums. On the palate the wine is well balanced with ripe,
spicy fruit and a savoury character. The finish is long and elegant.
Farnese Edizione 2007 Farnese
This intensely rich and powerful wine is made from five different wine
grape varities, grown across the Southern regions of Puglia and Abruzzo.
The pronounced aromas of black cherry, prunes, tobacco and sweet spice
give way to a palate of great complexity, incorporating dark chocolate,
vanilla and ripe blackberry. Full bodied, with structured tannins yet
velvety and rounded; sheer class.
