This section covers the current standing in the general areas of Hatfield, Welwyn, Welwyn Garden City, St Albans & Wall Hall (Watford). These areas of Hertfordshire are pretty much the main areas populated by the locally known Kindred (apart from the few that come from London or other fairly local areas). THE COUNTY OF HERTFORDSHIRE Hertfordshire has rapidly expanded within the last century. Much of this is due to the fact that it lies only about 12.5 miles north of central London at its closest point. At least half of the county is Green Belt land and new Towns & Garden Cities contrast with the older farms and villages which are dotted around large areas of countryside. The southern areas of the county are largely urban and industrial. HATFIELD Ruled by Prince Joseph of Clan Ventrue (was Simon Matthews) One of the 'New Towns' (formed in 1946) and the most important area of the domain, Hatfield encompasses the core of the Student population. The main site of the University of Hertfordshire is here and it is in these grounds that Elysium is declared. The 'Elehouse' is usually the Kindred meeting place on Mondays. Over the last 20 years or so, the area has built up rapidly into a properous place for certain areas of business. The last 5 or so has seen a massive shopping mall 'The Galleria' which mostly sells books, factory warehouse clothing, toys and the like. Currently, a new Asda Supermarket is being built in the town centre and Computercenter are moving their head offices to the Hatfield Business Park. It is certain that some of this industrial and business boom can be attributed to the students flocking to the University, but it is also a known fact that a lot of smaller businesses do not last very long at all. ST ALBANS Ruled by Prince Simon Matthews of Clan Ventrue A small town with a lot of potential for business & industry. St Albans has very sizeable town centre for shopping, and tends to give more choice than Hatfield when it comes to buying what you want. The Business and Law school is based here and is part of the University. WALL HALL (WATFORD) Considered neutral ground The second of three University sites (the other being in Hertford) and the most picturesque. The site is well away from the Watford Town centre and is essentially almost in the middle of nowhere resting alongside a very small area known as Aldenham which has only a few houses, a church and not much else. The site contains probably the smallest student population and is pretty much self-contained. Also rumoured to be the odd Werewolf around although no-one can or will say they have definately seen any. WELWYN/WELWYN GARDEN CITY Ruled by Prince Ivan Hughes who seems to maintain a very tenuous grip over the area. Welwyn/WGC is rather like Hatfield was 20 years ago. Any businesses that have sprang up don't seem to have lasted very long before either going bankrupt or deciding the area wasn't worth it and moving on to better locations like Hatfield or places further afield like London. |
