Hold On - bbq 304 cd

Me, I like the scratchy guitar bits in the verse, I like the telephone ring, I like the words, I like the little scream in the background, I like the tune, I like the whole bloody lot. The deteriorating relationship concerned might not have much strength left in it, but that's only 'cos the song's stolen it all. And it's almost worth scrapping the relationship for the song! I leave it to you to decide. Blood Red is, like, really good, but it seems somewhat lacklustre after Hold On. Track three, Mastermind, is the classiest ballad you could imagine.

Do you Behave Like That At Home? - bbq 305 cd

Bloody hell, is this uplifting or what?! A moment ago I was sitting, feeling nothing but despair at the thought of reviewing another single, and THWACK! Happy smiles R us, as the Beekeepers smack me across both cheeks with their hefty tune. Having not heard this for a while, I now mean to play it MUCH more often! Less We Care has a more melancholy vibe, so my smile fades a little, but returns for the echoey guitar solo :o). It's easy to imagine the crowd at a Beekeepers gig bouncing along to Window Shopper, even if you've never seen them play live. And if you HAVE never seen them play live, have I got a suggestion for you...

Lunar - bbq 311 cd

Straightforward rock, but like crude oil put through a refinery, it all comes out lovely and smooth. That's where the analogy ends, though, cos you don't often find crunchy bits in oil. A gutsy and gritty petrol-fuelled bugger that's actually quite nice when you get to know it; it has a tune and you can hum it... listen and love. Bitter Taste lacks the vital spark of Lunar. And steals a title from the mighty Send No Flowers. It's pleasant enough to listen to, but like cardboard if you're looking for something to sink your teeth into. Methinks someone weed on the cardboard, too. Bitter taste indeed. Cellophane (or Buzz by 60ft Dolls, it's the same song, I'm sure) is mellow enough to soothe without actually inducing sleep. And that's good, isn't it?
