Nato yesterday condemned Russia's threat to aim weapons at Europe over the planned US missile defence shield. President Vladimir Putin's threat to target missiles at Europe indicates that the hostility between Russia and the West is more than a passing phase. It has become a permanent part of world diplomacy.
Putin was undergoing transiting Mars in Aries opposing his Libran Sun when he made the statement on Sunday (June 3rd 2007). The current opposition of Saturn and Neptune is aligned to the MC/IC axis of his astrological chart. Furthermore his progressed Moon has recently slipped into Gemini and reaches progressed Full Moon phase in Sept. 2008. I have not been looking at his chart for a few years, this has crept up on us! All hail the new cold war.

Putin's progressed First Quarter Moon in Pisces makes a brief trine to his progressed Uranus in February 2002 and then becomes void of course until Dec. 17th 2002. Most of this astrologically quiet year sees Putin under the sway of this void lunar condition. He may be well advised to hold back on personal initiatives and enterprises until this year has been ridden out. in contrast the major planetary transit of the year 2002 is Uranus sextile his natal Mars. This aspect adds a dash of 'zest' to his year. This year is at least 'energetic'. Jupiter is conjunct by transit to his (and his generation's) Uranus in June, a time of 'an awakening call'. None of the Eclipses in 2002 are focused on Putin's astrological natal chart. No eclipse really hits this man's chart head on till 2004 when his natal Neptune gets 'hit hard' by a partial solar eclipse. Neptune will be squaring his natal Venus in 2003, the potential for difficulties, flare ups and challenges will be greater by then. The New Moon in May 2002 is conjunct his natal Jupiter. The New Moon on July 10th 2002 is conjunct his natal Uranus. One notable event this year is the New Moon in Libra October 2002 one day before his birthday. We may possibly witness the stirrings of new situations from this time. The New Moon on Nov. 4th 2002 is conjunct his Venus.
2001 marked Putin's progressed Moon at first quarter in Pisces on May 1st 2001. The meaning of this period in his life is described in the astrology textbooks as a 'crisis in action' for Putin. The greatness of this man is before him. This time in his life represents a challenge, his spirit will issue to the outdated and outmoded, this man will be forthright and modern in his strong grasp of power and politic, as his story unfolds. The major transiting aspects during 2001 were beneficial and positive. Pluto sextiled natal Sun, Uranus trined natal Mercury (opposite natal Pluto), Saturn trined natal Sun. We had here a year long trend of a blending of discovery, growth and control. Putin's progressed Sun entered Sagittarius during in 2000, his first year of office marked the first of thirty years of his progressed Sun in Sagittarius, the sign occupied by his Natal Mars.
His progressed horoscope, shows a mutable T-square in operation during 2000,2001 and 2002. This man will astound. For two years he will assimilate and absorb as his progressed first quarter Moon journeys through Pisces, then a more fiercely urgent personality may well manifest. Pluto will conjunct his natal Mars in 2006, the two were in fiery trine at birth. The year 2006 may well be a time when we will see great power made manifest. Right now, at least until 17th Dec. 2002 a quieter period maybe.
