| Responsibilities
-- Mentors are like
co-pilots. The
pilots are the young people
who often find it difficult to express
what they really want to say. They are
the ones who have to make decisions about
their own life, but the mentor helps them
by providing an opportunity to think and
gain an independent viewpoint. This gives
them greater self-confidence and the
skills to begin taking control of their
lives. |

| Qualifications
-- The best mentors usually dont
realise that they have the skills
required. They are people who offer
encouragement and have a commitment to
helping young people develop. Training is
provided and will include issues around
values, empathy and safety. Practical
suggestions are provided and expenses are
paid. Mentoring will be a process where
you have an opportunity to help someone
else overcome a difficulty in their life.
