The Arena in the City of Laura
Welcome to the Arena of Laura.
The Arena is open to all who wish to make use of the facility.
General Rules
1. All contests are to be judged, the Judge(s) to be agreed by the combatants. Combatants to abide by the decision of the Judge(s).
2. Each combatant may carry a maximum of 5 weapons. If a shield is carried it counts as a weapon. The use of bow and crossbow is not permitted. The type and position of each weapon will be declared. The Judge(s) will take into account the restrictions to movement caused by the weapons carried. Only Gorean weapons will be recognised.
3. For armour only the use of a shield and helmet will be recognised. The type and position will be declared and its presence must be taken into account when performing an action.
4. The combatants will enter the Arena, declaring the type and position of each item worn or carried and signal their readiness to begin.
5. A Judge will give the signal to commence.
6. The Judge(s) will ignore posts/actions which are deemed to be unrealistic.
7. No killing blows or permanently disabling blows will be recognised unless all parties are in agreement before the contest.
8. The effect of wounds to be taken into account when posting.
Rules for Speed Spar
1. Once the signal to commence is given the combatants may make posts freely without waiting for a response.
2. There is no limit on the length of a post or the number of actions in a post but each action should be clearly defined and be unambiguous.
3. All posts must be typed, the use of tools such as cut and paste, laggers, booters will negate the result of the contest. Combatants to have the No Speech Bubble patch removed.
4. The effect of a post may be negated or limited by an immediate response from the other combatant. If the first combatant makes a subsequent post before the second combatant can respond, the second combatant must accept the full effects of the first post.
5. The contest will continue until the Judge cries HOLD and announces the winner.
Rules for Skill Spar
1. Contests to consist of 5 posts by each combatant, alternating with no time limit between posts.
2. The Judge(s) will decide on which combatant makes the first post if the combatants are not in agreement.
3. Each post to consist of a maximum of 5 actions. A maximum of 3 actions may be used for attack and 2 for defense. Any additional actions will be ignored. Do not post the response of your opponent to your actions or the extent of damage caused by an attack. Movement is not considered to be an action unless it's sole purpose is to avoid an attack.
4. The effects of the opponent's preceding posts must be accepted and taken into account when posting unless negated or limited in effect in the immediately following post. If an attack is missed or ignored the Judge(s) will assume the attack was successful and the full effect of the attack was taken and penalise the defender accordingly from that moment onwards.
5. If the use of killing/permanently disabling blows has been agreed they may only be delivered in the final post.
These rules are guidelines for sparring in this Arena alone and are not to be taken as rules which are valid in other places.
