Rhys Daniels suffers from an illness called Battens Disease. This is a rare genetic disorder, that in Rhys' form, debilitates the child from the age of 3 to a certain death by the age of 10.
This story was featured in the press especially when at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Rhys' body sadly rejected his first bone marrow transplant and had to undergo a second in August 1994.
On top of the stress of their son's illness, the Daniels had the added problem of staying 200 miles away from home in an unfamiliar city. No accommodation was available near the hospital, but thankfully, due to public awareness, they were assisted by a private benefactor.
The
Daniels met many families whose children were suffering from a
variety of illnesses, and who had to make do with inadequate accommodation.
It was this that prompted them to launch the charity.
The charity is now working on building it's first unique purpose built 'Home from Home' accommodation centre adjacent to the specialist children's hospital in Bristol, with the aim to provide the same wherever there is the need at other specialised centres within the UK.
Tragically, Rhys' operation was unsuccessful as a cure and it is in honour of his bravery and fight for life that this Appeal is in his name.
This single is available in all major record outlets from 15th June 1998.
