The Sun   6th March 1999

Join The Sun celebrity auction to raise cash for brave attack victim was the headline.

Two of our greatest soap stars donated items for auction which was started to raise money for a very brave little girl.  Readers were asked to join in The Sun's celebrity auction to help hammer- attack survivor little Josie Russell.

Josie, 11 was left for dead in the appalling attack which claimed the lives of her mum Lin and her six year-old sister Megan at Chillenden, Kent in July 1996.

She suffered brain damage during the ordeal but her miraculous battle for life moved the nation and Sun readers became infuriated when she was offered just £18,500 in compensation so they joined a campaign to highlight courageous Josie's plight. The Criminal injuries Compensation Board bosses were forced to rethink after The Sun's campaign and raised the paltry sum to £79,000.

So the The Sun gave the nation an opportunity to help secure Josie's future - and own an item donated by their favourite celeb. Nick Berry donated a fantastic Henri Lloyd jacket and Ross Kemp donated his Versace dinner suit.

If you wish to donate something I'll warn you that the calls are quite expensive, especially if you calling from abroad.  Why not go to The Sun web site and send them an email, and remember, it's for the Josie Russell Trust.
