Under 16's
Team from: Zoe Walker, Claire Webster, Claire Hopkinson, Emma Marley, Gemma Dickenson, Beth Bailey, Emily Fisk, Sarah Smith, Nadia Mizbam, Laura Furmidge, Lyz Clerke, Amanda Reeve, Jo Potter, Danny Logan, Hannah Prescott, Tara Madeley,
Claire Wallhead (U14 gk)

2 - 2 (ht 1 - 1)
Reeve, Madeley

An injury hit Chesterfield took the field with a predominantly Under 15 side. Goalkeepers, Jayne Coulson and Hazel Wardle were suffering from appendicitis and broken fingers, whilst outfield players Sam Hill, Sam Taylor, Lucy Smith and Helen Marsden were also unavailable. In order to provide goalkeeping cover Claire Wallhead was called up from the Under 14's.

The game started brightly, proving to be a well matched affair. In the Centre of midfield Gemma Dickenson quickly imposed herself with some fine passing. After 15 minutes a Yorkshire break lead to the home side's first anxious moments. Goalkeeper, Zoe Walker charged out of her area to make a timely interception but then fell awkwardly and had to be replaced by U14 stand in Claire Wallhead, Claire went on to have a fine game. On 25 minutes a promising break down the left led to Amanda Reeve smashing the ball home from 20 yards to put Chesterfield into a well deserved lead. 5 minutes later and the visitors were level when a long distance shot was placed over the top of the Chesterfield keeper. The scores stayed level until 10 minutes into the second half when Tara Madeley pounced on a loose ball in the box and slammed it home, a poachers goal that is rapidly becoming her trademark. As the game drew to a close Yorkshire again equalised with a long range effort that sailed over the head of Claire Wallhead in the Chesterfield goal. Then with seconds remaining Danny Logan missed an excellent chance to wrap up the game for the home side when her shot was cleared off the line.

All in all a creditable performance from a young team. Defenders Claire Hopkinson, Emma Marley and Nadia Mizbam all had excellent games and played a large part in keeping the Yorkshire forwards at bay. In midfield Claire Webster was particularly influential on the right flank during the first half, and Gemma Dickenson quietly and calmly controlled the game from the Centre.

Team from: Claire Wallhead, Rhianne Carroll, Freya Lees, beth Gingell, Emma Hornsby, Charlie Cooper, Lea Cobham, Amy Burrows, Laura Cooper, Tania Clayton, Rachel Skeemer, Heather Myronko, Kelly Larner, Laura Thompson, Laura Naylor, Abi Ramsey, Claire Simms.

2 - 4 (ht 2 - 3)
Skeemer (2)

The Under 14's took the field full of confidence as the majority of them are involved with teams running away with their respective league's. However they were soon up against it as a stronger Yorkshire team began to press home their advantage. After 5 minutes Chesterfield went a goal down as a lack of pace in the defence was exploited. Reorganisation followed and although Chesterfield fell further behind the introduction of Kelly Larner and Laura Thompson help to stiffen the back three. The home side now came back into the game, forwards Claire Simms and Rachel Skeemer were particularly efective linking well with Laura Naylor on the left and Beth Gingell on the right. In the centre of midfield Laura Cooper was also beginning to have an effect on the game. Just before the break Rachel Skeemer pulled a goal back to make the score 1 - 3, and at last the team was beginning to compete. In the second half further chances came Chesterfield's way but Skeemer only managed to convert one of them before she had to leave the field with a severe ankle injury. Again Chesterfield had to be reorganised and their challenge faded, Yorkshire added a further goal to make the score 2 - 4 overall.

The most disappointing result of the day, but still some bright notes with the combination play of Claire Simms, Rachel Skeemer and Laura Naylor being particularly pleasing.

general action from U12's gameSaturday 30th October 1999

Under 12's
Team from: Freya Lees, Megan Wylde, Lynn Goodman, Becky Lee, Sarah Chapman, Grace Jones, Natalie Robinson, Zoe Banyard, Sarah Thickitt, Natalie Reynolds, Leanne Tucker, Jody Hargate, Anya Taylor, Becky Beever, Helen Lynskey

3 - 2 (ht 2 - 1)
Chapman, Thickitt, Taylor
Megan Wylde

Chesterfield took the field as newcomers to the 1 a side game with the instructions to play a short passing game based on good support and loud communication. For the first ten minutes the team struggled to come to grips with the size and demands of the pitch, Goalkeeper Freya Lees having to make a string of fine saves. After 18 minutes it came as no surprise that Yorkshire took the lead. Chesterfield manager Stuart Rowley now reorganised the back line and the pattern of play began to change. Leanne Tucker came on at left back and triallist Sarah Chapman at left midfield, the home side now began to put some promising moves together. After 25 minutes Chesterfield were level through Sarah Chapman, then on 30 minutes Sarah Thickitt struck the ball home from a corner to give the home side an interval lead. In the second half Anya Taylor added to the lead within minutes of coming on, Chesterfield now had their best period of the game with Helen Lynskey orchestrating play from midfield. As the half wore on Yorkshire's greater size and strength began to tell and with 5 minutes remaining they pulled a goal back to make the final score 3 - 2 in our favour.Helen Lynskey

On balance a good opening fixture for the girls, showing that there is a nucleus of an excellent side if somewhat naive regarding positional tactical requirements. Helen Lynskey and Leanne Tucker both had fine games with good levels of mobility and athleticism. Natalie Robinson and Sarah Thickitt operating in the midfield also worked well with Sarah especially showing an ability to read the game.

Our visitors were touring the UK from Spokane, the second city in Washington State. They were a high school select side and contained anumber of players who had progressed into State Development and Olympic Development programmes. It proved to be a cracking game of football between two evenly matched sides, a great advert for girls football.
