With each section of the Club
coming ever closer together our technical staff have to begin to plan for the
future. This season the Club has adopted a 5 year plan for excellence and we
are therefore comitted to the improvement of playing and coaching standards.
Player development is therefore an important issue. As adults, we are often
guilty of looking for short term acheivement without considering the whole
picture, or indeed the future.
First and foremost we all have to understand that a good result is not
necessarily indicative of a good performance. Obviously winning is a nice
feeling, whatever your age, and being one of the top Clubs in the

Region is a position that we have
to maintain. However our staff are being made increasingly aware that
devlopment occurs over a number of years.
ie.
In any typical age group the players will be at differing stages of maturity. A
smaller player might be phsyically 2 years behind their peers whilst an early
developer might be 2 years in front of their peers. That's like playing a 10
year old against a 14 year old and no responsible manager should ever be
allowed contemplate that.
In addition to physical differences all children are at different stages
of mental development and they can only understand concepts at their own
pace.
