Geographically, as well as historically, a country town will contain not one community but many. The Anglican church’s pride of place as ‘the parish church’ may not always be allowed without question. Churches of different denominations have to take each other into account, and church members have to face the fact that ‘local church’ has to mean more than any individual congregation.
