EQUESTRIAN ACTIVITIES

Situated as we are in the heart of Sherwood Forest, Kings Clipstone is well known to horse-riders, cyclists and walkers.

The much used bridleway, soon to become part of the Sustran Cycle Track ( Inverness to Dover) crosses the busy B6030 next to the Dog and Duck Public House.

To the north of the village, this major off-road trail passes by Archway House before crossing the A6075 to Birklands Forest. It also links with another bridleway travelling east alongside the River Maun towards Edwinstowe. South of the Dog and Duck the route travels westwards towards Vicars Water Country Park at New Clipstone. . East to the village , it is possible to reach the entrance to Sherwood Pines Forest Park, by travelling under the railway bridge and a relatively short distance along the road. Cyclists and walkers may then enjoy the many forest trails free of charge. Horse riders are allowed access to Clipstone forest on purchasing a permit.

For many years Endurance Horse Rides, including prestigious Summer Solstice events from 1985 to 1987 and the European Championships in 1993 have included these bridleways and forest trails within their routes. These start as far afield as Southwell Racecourse as well as locally from Sherwood Pines and Broomhill Grange.

For those who choose to travel by the road through Old Clipstone, access can be gained via Squires Lane to two further bridleways which run parallel to the North of New Clipstone.
