OLD CLIPSTONE TODAY

Our village consists of some 125 properties spread over several miles forming a community that still provides the workforce for local farms and in recent years for the local coal mines. Unfortunately both industries are in decline. Fortunately small businesses are on the increase.

For most of our villages existence we were part of Edwinstowe parish and it is to their records we turn to when researching much of our history. Edwinstowe originally wasn’t a great deal larger than Clipstone. In fact some authorities suggest we were the larger community.

Edwinstowe, the home of the famous Major Oak and the main claimant of Robin Hood. Certainly today it has some of the better remnants of Sherwood Forest and an excellent visitors centre.

Old Clipstone today is still only a tiny community but are intent on making ourselves better known by the year 2000. Being such a scattered community with very little opportunity for meeting , we have somewhat lost our identity. That is about to change. Working under the title ‘CELEBRATION OF KINGS’CLIPSTONE’ we are moving forward with a multitude of projects. Everything from writing our history, tidying up the village, getting to know one another better, reclaiming our title KINGS’ CLIPSTONE and hopefully for the year 2000 a party that we will all remember.
