The Cell Biology Microscopy and Imaging Facilities are situated on the second floor of the Institute of Opthalmology. The facilities are managed by Dr Keith J. Morris.

The primary aim of the facility is to provide state-of-the-art cell imaging equipment for the biological and biomedical research community within the institute. Users receive full training in the use of confocal and epifluorescence based imaging systems for immunofluorescence, Calcium ion ratio imaging, and time-lapse imaging of live cells. We also have MetaMorph, OpenLabs, Volocity, LaserPix [Image Pro Plus], LaserVox and PhotoShop image analysis and editing software packages.

Users from UCL and other institutes are welcome to use the facility although Cell Biology does operate a cost recovery system and so charges for access on an hourly basis. The charges are typically £10 per hour for confocal microscopes (including 405nm DAPI diode laser) and £5 per hour for OpenLabs time-lapse fluorescence microscopy. Other microscopes are free access.
