The Langbury
is a large mainly Edwardian
house originally built as a gentleman's
residence. It stands in its own grounds
set in an elevated position in the small
village of Blue Anchor. This small
friendly hotel has become renowned for
its particular blend of comfort and
personal service by an ever-widening
circle of guests who return time after
time to what they have come to regard as
a haven of peace and comfort. The hotel
enjoys magnificent views of the sea and
the hills of glorious Exmoor which are a
feast for the eyes at any time of year.
We are approximately three miles from the
medieval village of Dunster with its
fairy-tale castle. The traditional
seaside resort of Minehead is five miles
by road. The town offers shops, golf,
sea-fishing trips, riding stables and an
indoor swimming pool. The harbour is
pretty and the old part of the town
around the Church is worth exploring on
the way up to North Hill which gives
spectacular views of the coast and
surrounding hills.
The
Langbury is barely two minutes from the
beach and Blue Anchor Station where you
can board a steam train on the West
Somerset Railway - the longest preserved
railway in the country. Steam trains run
from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard;
skirting the Quantock Hills and passing
through picturesque villages &
tranquill countryside.
Dunster is 2½ miles by public footpath
across the fields and Minehead is an
hours walk along the beach; for the more
adventurous both routes lead onto open
moorland beyond, where 30 minutes walk
will take you to thousands of acres of
some of the most beautifull un-populated
scenery in England which waits to be
enjoyed. With
a leisurely car journey one can explore
the hills, valleys, woodlands and
breathtaking coastline of Exmoor with its
numerous picture-book villages, National
Trust Houses and Gardens.
For a day trip there are
the historic cities of Bath, Bristol and
Exeter. Visit Wells with its magnificent
Cathedral and Bishops Palace. Explore the
Cheddar Caves, Glastonbury; all will make
a memorable day out.
-Or; just
relax by the Swimming Pool and enjoy our
well-tended gardens - Whatever your
choice of activity The Langbury is the
place to stay.
Every bedroom has a view of the sea and
surrounding hills over open countryside. All
our bedrooms have private bathrooms
en-suite with W.C. & bath or shower,
colour TV, easy chairs, clock-radios,
beverage tray, complementary toiletries,
hot and cold water and central heating.
All rooms are en suite. Some bedrooms
will accommodate families. There is a
lounge, bar & laundry room for guests
use, and ironing facilities and
hairdriers are available. At all times
you can be sure of the personal attention
of the owners to whom your needs come
first. Above all else it is our wish that
your stay at The Langbury is a truly
enjoyable one.
