
This
Division is for individual members who wish to be part of a professional body and meet the
Associations requirements for membership as qualified or student locksmiths or are
closely linked to time locksmithing industry. The categories within this Division to which
external, application can be made are:
STUDENT For persons aged 16 and over who
are studying for the Institutes Entry examination. They are required to provide two
references and complete the relevant application forms. They should be receiving or intend
to receive, adequate practical training as locksmiths. A person can only hold the
classification of Student for three full calendar years, during which time that person
must pass the Entry examination. Failure to pass the examination within three years will
automatically exclude that person from Student membership.
ADVANCED STUDENT For persons aged 16 and
over, who have served at least twelve months in the locksmiths trade and intend to study
for the Institutes Member examination. They are required to complete the relevant
application forms, provide two references if applying for initial entry to the Institute
at this category, attend an interview and pass the Entry examination. They should have
received or be receiving adequate practical training as locksmiths. A person can only hold
the classification of Advanced Student for four full calendar years, during which time
that person must pass the Member examination. Failure to pass the examination within four
years will automatically exclude that person from Advanced Student membership.
MEMBER For individuals who are, or have
been, practising locksmiths for at least four years. Applicants are required to complete
the relevant application forms, provide two references if applying for initial entry to
the Institute at this Category, attend an interview and take an examination. A Member may
use the initials "MBLI after his name.
ASSOCIATE MEMBER For persons who are at
least 2 I years of age and either
by virtue of their occupation, are
actively concerned with the locksmithing / security industry or the security of property
but are not practising locksmiths or
are practising locksmiths outside the
United Kingdom and whose ability and integrity satisfies the Council of the Association.
Applicants are required to provide two references and complete the relevant application
forms. In addition, applicants must subscribe to the Aims and Objectives of the
Association and hold a position, which in the Opinion of the Council, will enable them to
be active in promoting those Aims and Objectives.
Categories of Fellow and Master are only
open to members of the Institute.
