[The Odyssey]

THE CICONES

You blame it on your men: they keep drinking and butchering sheep and long-horned cattle on the shore, giving the Cicones' inland neighbours time to launch a counter-attack; an all-day battle gives them victory and finds six of your men from each ship dead. Let's hope you and they have learned a lesson! Zeus sends gales from the north and prevents you turning for home. Your ships are blown along for 10 days. You are completely off course. As the storm ceases you can see land. You are totally lost.
