Local Patch, South Wales

I visited the Kestrel's nest again but it was empty so I decided to climb to the top of the hill and was delighted to see the young Kestrel learning to use it's wings and looking fit and well. It rested on a nearby stone wall as I watched then flew off hesitantly over the fields until it was out of sight. There was no sign of the parents.

I continued on towards the cliff at the head of the valley and saw three Ravens stooping and hovering as they played on the wind. I wonder if they will nest there next year? I heard what sounded like a raptor's alarm call and thought I saw a Kestrel disappear into a cleft in the face of the cliff as it was chased by the Ravens.

Other birds seen included Meadow Pipit, Mistle Thrush, and Winchat.
