Loch Garten & Inverdruie Fish Farm, Scotland

There were 8 drake Goosanders on the loch as well as a few Goldeneye. We went on a guided walk around the loch with the warden of the RSPB reserve and found a Treecreeper's nest containing well grown young.. There were many Coal Tits in the pine forest as well as a few Siskins and a single Spotted Flycatcher. We also heard Redstart and Tree Pipit and saw a Common Shrew scuttling through the undergrowth.

We visited the Osprey hide with it's closed circuit camera providing a close up view of the nest in a tall, bare tree and saw the male Osprey fly in to take over incubation duty from the female. They had a single egg in the huge nest. The Ospreys do not fish at Loch Garten because the water is too dark and peaty so we travelled to Inverdruie fish farm in the hope of seeing them feeding there. We didn't see any Ospreys there but we did see a heronry and 11 Grey Herons. The nests were in the very top of some tall Scots pines on the far bank of the Spey river. There were almost fully grown young standing on all the nests there. I also saw 3 cock Pheasants in an adjacent field.
