There where very few birds in the snow-covered resort of Poianna Brasov where we stayed for the week. The only regular species was Raven, which we saw every day with a maximum of 14 together on 2nd January. On new year's day we were standing outside a hotel waiting to go skiing when TJ (my wife) pointed to something flying towards us and asked if it was a bat. It flew very strangely and seem more like a giant butterfly than a bat or a bird. It landed on the vertical wall of the hotel and I recognised it immediately as a Wallcreeper even though I had never seen one before. We watched it searching the cracks in the wall for food, constantly flicking it's wings as it did so.

On New Year's day we travelled by coach to Bran castle. As we drove through the city of Brasov I spotted a large Goshawk harrying a flock of feral pigeons above the town hall.
