Nevis Range & Mallaig, Scotland

The scenery on the road from Fort William to Mallaig was stunning but there were few birds around and no sign of a Golden Eagle as I had hoped. I did see a Common Gull and heard a Common Sandpiper on one of the lochs.

From the white, sandy beaches on the coast we saw some 'Commic Terns' on a tiny island in the bay. There was a handsome Black Guillemot swimming and diving in the crystal clear water of Mallaig harbour. We were treated to close views of it's jet-black body and contrasting white wings as it paddled along. I heard a Wood Warbler's descending trill as we drove through oak woodlands on the way back.
