Lake District, Cumbria, England

We stopped off in the Lake district on our way home from Scotland in the hope of seeing the only Golden Eagles nesting in England. The eyrie was on a surprisingly accessible crag in a small valley at the end of a lake. It was getting dark and cloudy as we approached the RSPB observation post when we saw an eagle fly from the direction of the nest. It circled once then disappeared below the skyline on the other side of the valley. It was too dark to see the nest clearly from the observation post. We were told that it contained one chick.

We also saw a pair of Canada Geese with two goslings on the lake.
