ropolis

Propolis is a mixture of plant resins collected by the bees and used around the hive. It is used for sealing gaps in the hive and reducing the hive entrance (Hence the name Pro - before, Polis-the city). It is also used to wall off any object in the hive which may adversely affect the bees anfd which they cannot remove. Dead mice have been found completely mummified in propolis and the hive working normally.

It is this antiseptic property of the propolis that is utilised in the cream.

Propolis on its own is very effective at clearing up mouth ulcers if chewed.

Propolis tincture has been used in the treatment of skin infections in man and animals and is very effective against parapoxvirus virus infection in sheep.

The propolis cream is made using the basic handcream recipe of Almond and Coconut oils but instead of a fragrance a quantity of strong tincture of propolis is added. This produces the antiseptic cream with a moisturising and waterproof action
