08/05/05 - VE Day and the opening cricket
game at Bishopsbourne (East Langdon, Game abandoned when the drizzle
turned to a downpour). This photo shows the pitch surrounded by
the ornamantal plantings - these are the grounds of Charlton Park and
were planted in the style of Capability Brown. Just visible in the
forground is the far bank of the river Nailbourne - we sit on the
opposite bank (Jopper's Bank) and cross over by a flimsy wooden plank.
15/05/05 and a packed Jopper's Bank crowd
enjoy the sunshine and the Bishbourne team winning against Badlesmere.
In the background is the pavilion and beyond is the village.
22/05 - A high scoring game against Walmer
(finished as a draw) saw a near record turn out on the bank - this shot
shows part of the crowd during the tea interval. NB The full sized image is the
largest on the page and may take a few moments to load.
This game was also enlivened by some impromptu dog racing between Josh
(a Jack Russel) and Merlot (Labrador)
05/06 - Folkestone Equitable visited
Charlton Park. This shot shows the Bishopsbourne team relaxing during
the early part of their innings. This changed later as a tight game saw
wickets falling and everything decided on the last ball of the game!
This game also saw the Jopper's Bank crowd
on a road trip! Here the Bank is shown sitting next to the pavilion
rather than on the bank.
The famous bridge over the river to reach
the bank.
05/06 - Folkestone Equitable (fielding) and
the Bishopsbourne batsmen leave the pitch after an exciting game.
