Dimension Edge

by Paul Hornby

The Dimension Edge is an American roller drive cyclemotor that fits over the rear wheel.  The Standard model has a 35cc two-stroke engine of 2bhp.  It follows the common American practice of using an off-the-shelf industrial engine, which is built into the cyclemotor assembly It has what is described as a "spring wishbone strut suspension" on either side of the unit, which bolts on either side of tha wheel spindle.  The unit is sold with two rollers; one is intended for all weather/all terrain use, the other os a plain polyurethane one for dry road use.  Different diameter rollers are available as optional extras to enable the rider to alter the gearing of the unit.  The tank holds 3 cups (sic) of petroil, whish is claimed to give a range of 40 miles but a larger tank, "for all day use" is also available.  The unit has a speed range of 3 to 35mph.  Extensive use is made of aluminium in the construction of the unit, which weighs 10½lb.

A larger unit, of unspecified cubic capacity, is available; this produces 2.9bhp.  Various optional anodised finishes and colours are avialable for the aluminium parts - the cyclemotor as fashion statement! The Dimension Edge can be optained as a complete autocycle, fitted to a 20" wheel Dahon folding bicycle.  The engine is claimed to meet current US emmision standards and, moreover, to be almost completey recyclable - not that that would be of interest to NACC members!
