This Kenya Railways experimental inspection trolley was introduced during the 1950s as a quicker method of surveying the track than the traditional four-man push trolley. It was based around a Cyclemaster-powered Hercules bicycle. The experiment was not an unqualified success. On lightly-laid track the rear wheel had a tendance to fall off the track, especially in wet weather. The trolley is on display in Nairobi Railway Museum. (Photo supplied by Peter Skinner)
