Duromatic Sportsman Aero Scooter

Duromatic Sportsman Aero Scooter

Peter E Hill

How's this for something completely different or insane?  The picture is from a 1948 edition of Rail and Cable News, and shows a machine called the Duromatic Sportsman Aero Scooter.  This four-wheeled scooter was powered by an engine of only 10cc which turned the 12" diameter propeller.  However, the engine was a McCoy 60, which was capable of producing 1.5bhp at 17,000rpm and, if used without a silencer as shown in the photo, could be heard half a mile away as the adjacent noise was about 98dB!

Unfortunately, I have no other details of this device and wonder if any of our American readers might have heard (very bad pun) of it or have any details.
