Lohmann Marine Attachment

Paul Hornby

I spotted this unusual after-market accessory in the January 1954 edition of the American magazine Popular Science.

Lohmann Marine Attachment

The kit, which was "imported from Europe" was intended for use with the standard Lohmann cyclemotor, which you took off your bike when you reached the moorings.  It included a mounting bar, cylindrical fuel tank, propellor and shaft, a special silencer and a rope starter pulley.  To heat the engine for rope starting, fuel pellets were burned in a shield which clamped to the cylinder.  No other details are given.  Something to look out for at this summer's car boot sales.
