Antonio and Frances Lanna had two girls and two boys: Antoniella, (1904-21) Augustine, (1906-42) Dominic, (1908-89) and Mary (1912-1995).

Frances Lanna's health was not good. She went back to Cassino after the birth of Mary and, according to relatives, died soon after. Augustine died in September 1942 when the Merchant Navy ship he was on was torpedoed and shelled. Mary married an American, Edward Purdy, in 1947 and moved to the US.

Antonio married my grandmother, Louisa Dadomo, née Tomasso, in Liverpool in 1917. Her parents' names were, Lorenzo Tomasso (b.1859) and Lucia Bartolomeo. (Lorenzo's shown bottom left.) I've not been able to find out, yet, where they came from in Italy. My grandmother's first husband, Petro? Dadomo, died in 1913, aged 25. He was from Settesorelle di Vernasca,  Province of Piacenza. They had two sons named Joseph and Petro. Antonio and Louisa had two girls, Frances, my mother in 1919 and Antoniella in 1920. I have a sister, Barbara, born in 1941 and I was born in 1945. This is my mother on the right in 1947.

Antonio sold his land in 1933 to his brother-in-law Luigi D'Agostino. When Antonio died in 1947 the family moved apart.

Antoniella married a US serviceman, Melvin Shook, in 1948 after moving to the USA..

William Dozier, a technical sergeant in the US Army Air Corp was a very close friend of the family. He was stationed at Burtonwood Air Force Base in Warrington, Lancashire, England from the middle of 1944 to the beginning of 1945.

Crescenzo's Family

Crescenzo was visiting New York when the photograph (on the right) of his family was taken in Manchester in the early 1900s.

The photograph of Lorenzo (left) was taken in Liverpool on May 17 1931, his 72nd birthday. Mary Tomassio, granddaughter of Lorenzo Tomasso, provided the photo of Lorenzo.

Richard Melarange is a ggrandson of Crescenzo and did a lot of the Melaragni research. He can be reached at:  mail to

Albert Melarangi, son of Augustine, and Albert's son, Frank, also provided lots of information and photographs of Antonio. Frank can be reached at: mail to
