This bridge used to carry a narrow-gauge railway - constructed in the 19th Century - to shift stone from Roughholme to be used as embankment facing. The railway ran along the sea-wall at West Plain, and across the marsh.
The rifle range is marked on a 1930's map, and may be even earlier than this, possibly dating back to WWI
