Lying up in the top of a steep embankment, the gun emplacement is mostly buried and is supported by concrete-filled sandbags, in common with the 'Cumberland' pattern pill-box from which its construction is derived.
The left-hand sketch is looking north (side-view) and the sketch on the right is looking west, into the emplacement. In reality, the concrete roof-slab does not come to the edge of the sides, which consist of concrete-filled bags all the way up.
