Commerce, the World Wide Web and it's inventors

The value of commerce conducted via the World Wide Web is estimated to be around $1.2billion this year, and is predicted to continue growing rapidly.

What many people don't realise is that a percentage of all profits made via electronic commerce have to be given to the four men recognised as the founders of the Web. These men all worked at CERN during the early 1980's and invented many of the basic structures that allow the World Wide Web to function.

As a result of their ownership of this intellectual property, the Geneva Convention on Intellectual Property Rights (1977) entitles them to 12% of all profits for the first 5 years and 4% of all profits for the following 25 years.

These four men are already multi-millionaires, and are expected to be among the twenty richest people in the world by the time their intellectual property rights expire in 2012.
