Download and Printing Instructions for 'A Survey Of Urban Forestry In Britain'

This document is split into two PDF files. Although the first file [aie_sb1.pdf] only contains 10 pages, it has the largest file size of the two, due to the inclusion of the advertising graphics. The second file [aie_sb2.pdf] contains 28 pages and are text only. Each single PDF page contains two actual document pages arranged in landscape view to give 76 overall pages for the document. The 38 PDF pages are sequenced in such a manner that once printed they can be folded to produce a booklet, with all pages arranged in the correct order.

The pages are laid out for double sided printing and are intended for printing on to A3 sized paper and then folded to produce an A4 sized booklet. However, I printed them successfully onto A4 paper to produce an A5 sized booklet, which has a smaller, but still readable (just!), font size.

It is recommended that you print the pages double sided, otherwise you will use twice the amount of paper and once sorted and folded, will have two blank faces between each page (unless you paste them back to back).

The Adobe printing wizard allows the pages to be printed out of sequence, which enables such double-sided  to be carried out easily. To print the survey double-sided follow these instructions:

  • Download the first file [aie_sb1.pdf]. Select Print and check that the 'Fit to Page' flag is set and that the Properties is set to Landscape. Select the printing sequence to 'ODD PAGES ONLY' and begin printing.
  • Allow the 5 pages to stack naturally as they leave the printer so the last page is on top.
  • Once printed, grab the printed pages, turn them over, and place them into the printers page feeder (making sure the orientation is correct).
  • This time, select the printing sequence to 'EVEN PAGES ONLY' and begin printing. The pages should stack in the correct order for folding.
  • Now repeat the process for the second file.
  • Download the second file [aie_sb2.pdf]. Select the printing sequence to 'ODD PAGES ONLY' and begin printing.
  • Once printed, grab the printed pages, turn them over, and place them into the printers page feeder (making sure the orientation is correct). Select the printing sequence to 'EVEN PAGES ONLY' and begin printing.

Once downloaded, copies of the two PDF files should be stored within your 'Temporary Internet' folder. If you wish to use the PDF files in the future you will need to make copies of these files in a separate folder.

You will need the Adobe Acrobat File Reading program to enable you to view and print the Survey document. If you do not have this program, click here to obtain a copy.
