Welcome to the home page for the new IBM PC Emulator Project. Take a look at What's New in our web.

ALL PROGRAMMERS AND DOS GAMERS READ ON!

INTRODUCTION

Have you noticed that there are Emulators for just about every Computer and Console that ever existed? Well what about a PC emulator! I know they exist for Mac's but what about PC's themselves. Let me explain.

Have you ever tried running one of your favourite DOS games in Windows 2000, Windows NT and even in some case's Windows 98? They don't work!

There are three main reasons why these classic DOS games don't run correctly. The FIRST is that Windows 2000/NT do not give full access to the hardware in your PC. This makes these OS more stable but stops you from playing Monkey Island 2. The SECOND problem is that a lot of new hardware just doesn't work in the same way as the old kit. Ultima Underworld 2 runs on my PC, but my GeForce256 video card cause's complete screen corruption making one of my favourite games unplayable. The THIRD is that DOS is emulated (badly - because of reason one) in NT/2000 and resources are taken up in Windows 98 that prevent DOS running the way it should.

Windows Millenium will be the LAST EVER release of Windows with real DOS included. Then we're stuck. We'll be able to play an Amiga game on a PC but not a PC game!

What we need is a 32bit program (called WINDOS) that emulates an Old PC's hardware and DOS. Rather like WinAUE the Amiga emulator that lets you select what chipset, video and memory configuration you want to emulate and then lets you play Amiga games to that specification.

The WINDOS idea is published on this web site. Now we just need the input from you guys.

18 January 2000

Started to get some interest from Coders, Webmasters, Gamers - I'll keep you posted.
Found two other DOS emulators - one for Linux, the other for Unix. Although these programs are not what we are looking for, they may come in useful as reference for our coders. www.dosemu.org and www.bochs.com

19 January 2000

Download a demo of the WINDOS frontend. It doesn't do anything at the moment, but it does show you what to expect.
We have some coders who have joined the team. Check them out on the members page.

20 January 2000

Thanks for all the responce and ideas. Its been almost all positive. Don't forget if you have any ideas or you can put us on your links/news please let me know.

24 January 2000

A Discussion room has been setup on http://www.onelist.com for anyone who has idea's or input on WINDOS. (Now Defunct)
Programming has officially started on emulating a 286 with CGA graphics. Check this website for the first download!!

1 Febuary 2000

Onelist proved to be a little bit inaccesable so I've moved the discussion to good ol' DejaNews - Sorry for the hassle. www.dejanews.com
Kristian now has 100% memory 10%CPU and Filesystem access on WINDOS. Thanks Kristian!
