Blood Brothers ... Contributed by Gerry James

have always found CCADS first nights entertaining and this one was no different. Having arrived sharp at 7.00 PM it was good to see the doors open and ready for business. The doorman looked at little untidy although the front of house staff inside soon made up for that. The hall was warm and inviting something which it has not been in the past.
The play itself was very enjoyable although not very long! I thought that £6.00 for a play that lasted about 1 hour 20 minutes a bit steep.  My very first impressions however were not good as I had a light shining in my eyes and I thought there was far too much treble on Tina's mic. Apart from these small points I thought the first act went well. All the actors performed well although Graham and David did insist on coming to the "front" of the stage rather a lot. I must congratulate David Sadler in particular because I really

thought his portrayal of the young boy very convincing. This having been said I did feel that he could have been stronger in the second half. This is in contrast with his twin brother who I felt got stronger as the play, and therefore his age, went on. Their story was ably assisted by Karen Robinson who tried hard to make the difficult change from child to adult. The only problem I had with her was her costumes. Everyone else was dressed subtly apart from her, who was dressed in bright colours almost from the beginning to the end.
This was the first time I had really seen Corrie act and I was impressed. She had a very difficult role to play and did it really quite well. Congratulations on your performance, especially the beginning, which was so important in setting the tone for the rest of the evening.
Karen James's children now think

she is really horrible having seen her tonight. Karen gave an assured performance and moved smoothly from someone in complete control to someone who commits not one but two murders.
There were a few other cameo roles that were played out well, although the nerves did show on one or two of the actors.
Over all though the show was well put together and well played out. I was entertained from the classic beginning to the very dramatic ending. Doing the play in the round certainly was successful although there were times when I so wanted the actors to stand still for a second or two. I also thought that the lights should really have been higher to stop them dazzling the audience.
It was a great shame that more people did not turn out for the performance that I saw as they missed what was a very good
