Subject: [TWQ] Revived!!
Anyone up for reviving the TWQs? There has been some recent interest in 640-441, so I will use some information from that exam for this
TWQ. I know that previously we had started TWQs on Tuesday or Wednesday, but I have time to do this now so...
As usual, unless the question is multiple choice, answers must be unique within the group.
1. Tell me three things about BGP.
a. It stands for Border Gateway Protocol
b. It is an interdomain routing protocol
c. It is defined in RFCs 1163, 1267, 1654, 1772, and 1930
2. When characterizing network traffic one of the tough things to
figure out is how protocols act in their environment. Broadcast behavior, frame size, windowing and flow control, and error recovery
mechanisms are all important aspects of network traffic characterization. Tell me two thing about each of the above areas as
they relate to network traffic characterization.
Broadcast behavior:
1. Broadcasts can cripple a network, so there are scalability constraints to consider.
2. Layer 2 switches forward broadcasts and multicasts.
Frame size:
1. Making it as large as possible for the medium can greatly enhance a network.
2. Making it too large leads to fragmentation.
Windowing and Flow Control:
1. TCP uses it, UDP doesn't
2. Some protocols in the TCP/IP stack that support it are FTP, telnet,
SMTP, and HTTP.
Error Recovery:
1. Connectionless protocols usually do not implement error recovery
2. Connection-oriented protocols include Frame Relay, ATM, and SPX.
3.Tell me one thing about a scalable internetwork.
a. It follows a hierarchical model consisting of a core, distributive, and access layers.
