Taking A Shine To Charlotte

Daily Mail 12th Dec 1997

Discovered by Roman Polanski when she was just 16, actress Charlotte Lewis once had Hollywood at her feet - but things didn't turn out the way they do in movies : drugs and parties nearly drove her to the edge and she has now returned home to Britain after more than 10 years in Los Angeles.

"She's back to her usual happy, confident and shiny self", says her friend, Beauchamp Place hairdresser Gavin Hodge. "She rarely goes out, enen though she did join me at the Ink Bar in the King's Road the other day".

Now 29, Charlotte, who was noticed in Eddie Murphy's film The Golden Child, and has been romantically linked with Mickey Rourke, Charlie Sheen and Eric Clapton, is determined to pick up her career again.

"She lives with her mother in north London and has been studying theatre desugn at St Martin's", adds Gavin. "And I know there are a few film offers on the table. She just did the same as so many other British actresses by going to the States, but decided to quit while the going's good."
