The Rossendale Rambler

Editorial, June 1999

Its time for yet another edition of the ‘Rambler’ - how time flies. It seems like only yesterday when the last one came out and here I am rattling the old keyboard again. There’s a bumper bundle of interesting items in this edition, including quite a few poems. It looks like our readers have been struck by their respective muses and have come all over lyrical. The concluding part of the ‘House with Four Chimneys’ is also in this issue, I hope you’ve been able to contain yourself waiting for it! There has also been Richard’s trip to Nepal in March, of which he gives us a brief glimpse inside. If you want the whole story you will have to either chat him up for a loan of the booklet I produced as a keepsake, or get in touch with me for a copy of it. I would be happy to produce a few extra copies if those who want them would be willing to make a contribution to Rambler funds. The same goes for the other trip - the one that took 14 of us to Ireland this year. I will try and give you the flavour of the trip in the article within but I am also producing a booklet of the trip which will be available in a couple of weeks time. I will produce one copy for everyone on the trip and forward it once it has rolled off the press, so to speak. Again, it would be appreciated if a contribution to Rambler funds could be made. Any one else who fancies a copy should contact me and I will oblige.

The web site appears to be attracting a few ‘surfers’, two of whom have e-mailed me to complement me on the site; the letter from Bob Frith is featured in our first letter column ever and the article about a walk on Blencathra by Mike McGough, which he sent with his e-mail, is on page two of the newsletter. I have attached a visitor counter to the web site which counts the number of people that drop in to inspect it. The reading currently is over 400 and with a bit more publicity, which I’m working on, it may even get a bit more popular. If anyone reading this is interested to find out more about the Rossendale Ramblers, read back copies of the ‘Rambler’ or simply check what walk is laid on next week, please feel free to visit the site at http://httphttpwww.users.globalnet.co.uk/~waidew/~waidew/waidew/ . Finally, can I make another appeal for your letters, comments (good or bad) or articles that you may wish to have published in ’The Rossendale Rambler’ - it is your newsletter so please save this weary old editor from having to write it all himself! That’s all for now, enjoy the newsletter.
