Challenge of a Lifetime

The Mount Kenya Experience

Picture of Mount Kenyan

If you’re want something big - I mean really big - something that represents the challenge of a lifetime, The Children’s Hospital Appeal are the people to contact. They are organising a trek from Nairobi to the heights of Mount Kenya - all 16,345 ft of it via the ‘Corkscrew Route’, a gradual ascent that minimises the threat of altitude sickness and allows you to get the most from the spectacular views. This is a charity appeal so you’ll have to get sponsors, plenty of them, and the requirements are that you will need to have a high level of personal fitness. The challenge was to have been from the 11th - 19th September 1999 but it has now been put back to datesfrom Sunday 20th to Sunday 27th February 2000. This gives you plenty of time to get those sponsors together. For details of what you need, contact Louise now, at:-

Appeals Office on 0161 276 8700.

Have you got what it takes? You never know!

STOP PRESS

Following the successful Fairfield Horseshoe walk, where some 18 people took part, another walk has taken place, though a lot more local this time. Several of the Kenya participants joined Walter Waide and the Rossendale Ramblers for a 12 mile walk around Rossendale. Whilst the weather bore no resemblance to that which might be expected in Kenya, it served as a 'hardening-up' process for the future. There was some rain on the walk but generally everyone enjoyed the views of the lovely Rossendale countryside. Some declared it the wettest walk they had ever done !

At the time of writing this, it is expected that some good publicity will follow from the walk. All Kenya walkers are welcome to join the Rossendale Ramblers at any time and it is expected that some will be attending on the 12th December for the Embsay and Flasby walk.

The two day event in the Lakes which will take place on the week-end of the 22/23 January 2000 is due to be based at the Ambleside YHA. At this stage rhe back-to-back walks that are planned for the two days are likely to be in the Langdale area. Watch this space for more news as it develops or phone Vicky for further details.
