The Rossendale Rambler

WALK OF THE YEAR - RESULT OF POLL

This is the third year that I have tried to gain some kind of consensus as to which walk was the walkers' favourite and in an effort to try and regularise the procedure I sent out voting forms to those members who were regular attenders. I sent out 20 voting forms in total, each with a choice of three walks in order of merit with three points being awarded to the first choice, two to the second and one to the third.

I received 12 forms back which, theoretically with each form able to award a total of six points, should have made 72 points available for distribution to the nominated walks. Two of the forms however, only nominated two walks each so this left only 70 points to be awarded. The results above are self-explanatory and it is quite exciting to note that as many as 13 walks were nominated out of a total of some 40 walks that were available, including those from Ireland. There was however, a clear favourite and I am grateful (though somewhat embarrassed as collator of the votes) to all those that voted for the Crinkle Crags walk which, thanks to a wonderful day, has 'walked away' with the certificate. You will find ’Part One’ (the final episode next time) of an account of the walk on page three of the 'Rossendale Rambler' so that we can all re-live the experience on those dark winter nights which come each year.

For the next year, your walks committee has already huddled together at the Weaver's Cottage, to bring you another fabulous and diverse programme of walks for the millennium, which includes some shorter walks, eight miles or less, and some walks to try and help out the Blackburn Group, who have not been able to organise a walks calendar this time. Please give the walks your support and don't forget to vote for your favourite next year. I will enclose a voting form with the September edition of the ‘Rossendale Rambler’.
