Racing takes place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings. The safe sheltered water off Lake Yard has a number of racing marks and channel buoys, enabling a wide variety of long or short courses to be set. Starts are from a committee boat line, and finishes are off the club marina to maximise spectator appeal (spectator launches can be provided by arrangement).
Each boat must be reserved by a crew of two or three, who may opt to sail in the ‘spinnaker’ or ‘non-spinnaker’ class, depending on their experience. The yachts are colour coded for identification and are equipped with port and starboard right-of-way indicators, race area charts and full safety equipment. For the totally novice crew a fourth experienced person can be offered to guide them through the race. Evening races start at 18.45 and last for approximately one and a quarter hours. Sunday races start at 10.30 and last for approximately one and a half hours.
