Where patchwork quilts are made just for you! A range of quilts to suit all tastes. Most are made specially to order to ensure the right size and colour range. Inspiration is drawn from traditional designs bought into a modern setting. I carry a large range of baby's cot quilts and a few adult quilts in stock. For your own individually designed quilt it is best to allow about 5 weeks for making up, once we have agreed on the final design and fabric choice. All new materials are used throughout - unless you would like me to include some of your own fabrics. A typical quilt would be made from easy-care poly-cotton with a low allergy polyester wadding. This would be an ideal summer weight on it's own, but it makes a stunning coverall during the winter. If you are tempted to create a quilt designed just for you, you should look around your home for colours you enjoy living with. Mix this with a theme - contemporary, nostalgic, bold, peaceful. . . Then you are ready to begin! You can talk to me by 'phone or e-mail so that I can begin imagining a quilt that will work with your personality. We will talk about the colours you adore, influences on design and life style. Then we can build a picture of the best way forwards. From that conversation I will go through my fabric stock and pull out several fabrics that bring your ideas together, then build a sketch around the design. These can be photographed and mailed or e-mailed to you. When the design has been adapted to your taste, and fabrics settled on, the work can begin. A large quilt could take around five weeks to make. I will happily mail them anywhere in the world, insured postage. If you cannot see just what you want, then e-mail me with a suggestion or a picture and I will get back to you with a price. Very special commissions (like the picture quilts) will usually cost extra. Your new quilt can be machine washed on a gentle cycle, and is best dryed flat (after being pulled back into shape). Go on, ask me about the quilt you really want!!! Copyright © 2006 Karen's Quilts. ![]() ![]() Return To Wales Made Home Page or Return to Top |
I began sewing when my children were young and growing faster than I could afford to clothe them. At first I used commercially available patterns but always felt the need to make things a little different and more individual. As the children grew up, left school and found work they were able to buy their own clothes but I had become used to finding fabrics and making things so I turned my attention to costumes and fancy dress. In the last few years I have discovered the fascination of quilting and appliqué and this has solved the problem of Christmas and birthday presents for my family and friends. I enjoy the challenge of creating a picture in fabric and I am sure that I can make a picture from most ideas. I must stress that most of my work is NOT patchwork it is appliqué - sewing pieces onto a background to make a picture or design not joining small pieces together to make a pattern. Picture Quilts, usually as commissions. I also make costumes, for Live Roleplayers and Fantasy Freeformers. These have been Mediaeval, Victorian, Modern and just about anywhere in between.
