CREATIONS IN WOOD
The company is owned by Colin and Ann Carlson. Colin's background is as a
design engineer, then for the last 16 years, in manufacturing plastic office
products. Ann's background is 30 years in retail management. The manufacturing
company was sold to an American corporation and Colin and Ann effectively
retired in May 2002, after moving into the countryside, on top of a hill in
South Wales. Sounds idyllic doesn't it? It took only three weeks to realise
that unless they did something with their time they would soon be guilty of
boring each other to death or killing each other! So……..
The company was born out of several needs:
1. A desire to stay sane
2. The necessity to have an income
3. To prevent a divorce
Colin loves working with wood, and has always made things for family and
friends. The decision was made to see if they could turn what was until then, a
hobby into a viable business, so they spent the next 6 months making children's
toys ready for their first craft fair in November and founded 'Creations in
Wood' on September 1st 2002.
The first craft fair was a resounding success, with the best seller being a
'rocking snail' affectionately known as Brian (just for magic roundabout fans).
They are featured on the Wales Made website and are now in the process of
creating their own web site on www.creationsinwood.co.uk
They have just joined the Wales Craft Council and are pleased to tell everyone
that they are proud to be Welsh!
At Creations in wood, we offer a range of wooden toys and rockers made from all
different types of wood, which has been purchased from sustainable sources.
Each and every product is completely unique, by virtue of the fact that no two
pieces of wood are the same.
All our products are tested, and conform to EN71.
We are happy to give information on any specific wood used, and would be happy
to give advice on caring for your product.
