The Cops

I missed the first series of this down-to-earth police drama, and after watching the first episode of the new series I rather regret that. The shaky camera-work and restricted view-points, used with great effect in american shows such as NYPD Blue and Homicide are equally effective here once you get used to them. Unlike The Bill where apart from some petty disagreements and suspect dealings, the police are shown as hardworking and honest, here the characters are much darker. Hence the opening storyline where one PC is threatening to expose another's drug habit. The acting from both police and public is so natural that it's easy to imagine that this is a documentary. ***
