| HOME | Better Balance Better Balance is a balanced blend of the Omega 3 and Omega 6 essential fatty acids. It also contains Omega 9, which is a non-essential fatty acid. Although there are differing opinions regarding the best ratio of Omega 3: Omega 6 fatty acids, most agree that a ratio of between 1.5:1 and 2:1 is recommended. The disadvantage of most essential fatty acid blends is that they do not contain much GLA – which is an Omega 6 oil. Most of the research into the benefits of Omega 6 oils has been with GLA. It seems sensible therefore to make sure that any essential fatty acid blend contains adequate amounts of GLA – which is the case with Better Balance. In addition, the effect of essential fatty acids on hormones – and in particular the adrenal gland – is greatest with the use of Borage oil (Starflower). Borage itself has a positive effect on the adrenal. Again most essential fatty acid blends either do not contain Borage oil, or have a very low amount of Borage oil, unlike Better Balance. Recommended DosageAn average daily dose of 6.5mls. It is not necessary (but is preferable) to take a similar dose every day, but larger doses can be taken some days to make up the average daily dose. Now available in capsules - recommended dosage is 5 capsules daily. The oil can be added to food, used as a dressing, on jacket potato, etc.. It must not be directly heated – it cannot be used to cook – but it can be added onto hot food that is being eaten shortly after. The dosage be increased if necessary – as advised by a health practitioner. Cautions / Adverse ReactionsBetter Balance is usually well tolerated at the recommended dosage. There are no known contra-indications at the recommended dosage. Caution should be exercised in epilepsy because of the Starflower included, but is highly unlikely to cause problems at the recommended dosage.
