HOME | Vitamin C Vitamin C is probably one of the most important vitamins in the body. The human body has lost the ability to synthesise its own Vitamin C, but other animals are able to do this. It is often quoted that the adult gorilla produces many thousands of milligrams of vitamin C every day for its requirements. It makes the recommended daily allowance of 60mg look extremely small, but this is the minimum amount required to prevent the occurrence of scurvy the deficiency syndrome caused by a lack of vitamin C. For optimum health, most practitioners agree that we also need many thousands of milligrams, and we often recommend 2 3 tablets of vitamin C daily each tablet containing 1,000mg. Vitamin C is known as an anti-oxidant, and helps to prevent oxidative damage to the cells. It also has proven use in boosting the immune system, for example against coughs and colds, and there is some evidence that it helps in cancer prevention and also treatment. Recommended DosageVary according to usage. As a supplement a minimum of 1,000mg one capsule daily although more may be advisable. May be increased if necessary as advised by a health practitioner.
