Enfield Lock is fishing well opposite the boards. Plenty of carp can be seen just below the surface although not many seem to be caught. Lots of small perch and roach by the lily pads with better roach and odd skimmers showing in the middle to light waggler and caster hook bait.

Cooks Ferry is fishing reasonably well for roach upto 4oz with bigger perch upto 8oz also showing in reasonable numbers. Most fish can be caught near-in.

Picketts Lock opposite the reed beds is producing plenty of roach upto 4oz with skimmers also showing in large numbers, most skimmers upto 4oz with larger fish also showing.

Fishing this season at Enfield Lock should be fun as Lee Anglers Consortium have now introduced "rafts" on the opposite bank in order to provide cover for yet another stocking of carp.

As far as fishing the far bank is concerned it will now be almost impossible to fish against the far bank grating as the rafts have not only been attached to the bank but also chained to each other. Anyone wishing to fish against the grating will now have to place their float on the opposite side of the chain.

Admittedly the reason for introducing the rafts was to provide much needed cover to the fish from cormorants rather than to improve the sport. However, on a recent trip to Enfield Lock during the close season I noticed that several birds had used the rafts as nesting sites. How long before a cormorant gets the same idea. Previous to the introduction of the rafts cormorants could be seen perched along the far bank grating. Now it seems that the birds will merely use the new rafts as a fishing platform.

As stated earlier, the idea behind introducing the rafts was to provide cover for the fish, in particular the newly stocked carp. L.A.C. have stated in the past that carp were introduced in order to produce more colour in the water. As a regular Enfield Lock angler I have to admit that over the last 3-4 years, whilst the stocking of carp has taken place several times, I have not noticed any increase in the waters colour. L.A.C. seem to have forgotten that this stretch of the Lee has a lock at either end and a cutting in the middle of its stretch. Surely no matter how many carp are introduced in order to colour the water the fish alone will not make any significant difference.
